The allocation of the green sticker (pollutant group 4) is based on the emission codes in your vehicle documents:
- Petrol cars: Must meet Euro 1 or better (practically all passenger cars with regulated catalytic converters from EZ 1993).
- Diesel cars: Must meet Euro 4 or better (EZ mostly from 2006) or Euro 3 with a certified particulate filter.
Low-emission zones have been set up in many German cities to reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide pollution.
- Entry ban: Without a green sticker, the zone must not be entered (even electric cars require the sticker!).
- 100 Euro fine: Anyone caught without or with an illegible sticker pays a fine of €100.
