How long is an export license plate valid?

The period of validity can be flexibly selected from at least 9 days to a maximum of 12 months (1 year). The expiry date is stamped on the right side of the plate in the red field. Important: The TÜV main inspection must be valid at least as long as the export registration.

What is the difference between an export plate and a temporary plate?

An export license plate (customs plate) is designed for permanently transferring a vehicle abroad, is valid from 9 days up to 12 months, and is internationally recognized. A temporary plate (5-day plate) is valid for a maximum of 5 days, primarily meant for test drives in Germany, and only tolerated in select neighboring countries.

Why must the vehicle be presented at the registration office in Vaihingen / Enz?
